Bring your books. Make them yours.
A library should feel familiar. Bring in your local files, organise the books you want to return to, and keep a copy of the records that matter to you.
In this guide
Import local files
Open Settings and choose Import local files, then select your books using Android’s file picker. The app copies imported files into its managed storage. Wait for the import to complete and check the result before opening the book from your library.
The app includes EPUB, PDF, and MOBI readers, alongside audiobook playback. File compatibility depends on the actual file and its encoding; changing a filename’s extension won’t convert it. Protected files may not be compatible.
Arrange your library
Use Library to browse your books and organise them into collections. Shelves can be whatever is useful to you: a series, a reading list, or a handful of favourites for your next trip.
Reading and listening progress are kept locally. Bookmarks and highlights help you return to the parts you want to keep.
Edit a book’s details
Open a book’s details and use the metadata editor to correct its title, author, narrator, language, edition, release date, description, or series. You can also select cover artwork, including an image from your device.
A release date can be a year, a year and month, or a full date, such as 2024, 2024-06, or 2024-06-18.
Create a backup
In Settings, open Backup & restore and choose Create Backup. Pick a destination you can find again and protect the file as a personal export.
Backups contain library records, metadata, reading and listening progress, settings, collections, and related records. They don’t contain the actual audiobook or ebook files, provider credentials, signed provider URLs, or local filesystem paths. Device-picked cover files aren’t carried in the backup either.
Keep your original book files separately. A library backup isn’t a complete copy of your media collection.
Restore on another installation
Use Restore in Settings → Backup & restore and select the backup. Read the app’s prompts before continuing.
After restoring, import or download the book files you need again. Authenticated custom sources need their credentials re-entered because secrets are deliberately excluded from backups. A device-picked cover may need to be selected again.
Share a book with Kindle
Send-to-Kindle prepares an attachment and hands it to your chosen email app. Check the recipient and finish sending in that app. Forge & Fable doesn’t send the message silently from a server; the email provider and Amazon handle delivery after the handoff.
Keep reading when a provider is down
Your local library, imported files, and already-downloaded books remain available during a provider outage. See download and provider troubleshooting if something stops working, and the privacy policy for more about what stays on your device.
Keep exploring
